Welcome to the third week of library story times and checkout. It is a short week, but we are moving and grooving in the library. Most of our students have now learned our author and illustrator songs we sing each week before reading. They know the author writes the words of the book and the illustrator draws the pictures from the songs, but we will be going more into depth on their specific jobs and where to find their names on books in the coming weeks.
Our read aloud this week is If You Come To Earth by Sophie Blackall. It is a great story where Quinn gives possible visitors an instruction manual about Earth and its inhabitants. This is also the week I introduce the South Carolina Picture Book Award Nominees to our students. If you do not know about these awards, you can find out more information here. While we won't be able to read all of the award nominees, we will get to most of them before 4K, K, 1st, and 2nd vote on their favorites. We will get a school winner and then I will share the vote tally's with the SC Association of School Librarians so that our votes can be added to the rest of the votes from South Carolina to come up with our state winner who will receive the coveted SCPBA Winner sticker to place on the fronts of their book.
