Read alouds: We are finishing up Dad and the Dinosaur and moving into Jabari Jumps. (The 6 day rotation means that books span more than 1 week.) Both of these titles are nominated for the South Carolina Picture Book Award. Librarians, teachers, parents, and students from all over South Carolina came together over the last year and read as many of the newly published books to narrow it down to the top 20. We are reading as many as we can over this school year so we can then vote for our school favorite so that our votes then go to the state to see the state winner. The last 2 years our school's favorite has also been the book that has won. Our Rocky Creek Rangers seem to be great at picking winners! We have also begun our 3rd 9 weeks Reading Challenge. It is titled Reading is a "Walk in the Park" for RCE Rangers. We have a walking path through the library, now named Ranger Park, with tic tac toe and hopscotch. The students are really enjoying this time to move and have fun. Our kindergarten book club is also starting this week. We will be reading Pete the Cat and Mercy Watson books when we meet twice a week. At the end of the school year we will have a celebration of some kind. It looks like our book club will be 8-10 friends. I always have so much fun with these kiddos! One has already told his mom that "his heart is happy" That made me feel really good.
