We started back at school on January 7th. It was a rough morning for some children, but 2 upper grade classes came in to exchange their books, and it went pretty well. Most of the children were in good humor and were ready to begin their learning. Story time book: Snowmen All Year I have story time each day with kindergarten and 1st grade classes. I also have 2 4K classes that come once a week. Snowmen All Year is our read aloud for the week. I am also going to begin to show kindergarten how to check out from the shelves using a shelf marker. Professional read: Leading for School Librarians: There Is No Other Option This past semester I was part of a book club about being a leader in your school, Dare to Lead, which was a good read, so I picked this book up to add to my learning. I am only at the end of the first chapter, but it looks like it has a lot of information I can learn from it. 5th grade is beginning their Industrial Revolution unit, so all of the social studies classes have been coming in for a "picture walk." I have 8 groups of pictures and the students study them and answer questions relating to the Industrial Revolution. The students are thinking deeply by analyzing these photos and their accompanying captions.
